Orblue’s Burger Press makes perfect hamburger patties in seconds. The Orblue Burger Press arrived days before the official start of summer and it’s getting a regular workout at my house. I love the fact that it makes perfectly shaped patties that are ready to grill. The Orblue Burger Press comes in a three piece set which includes the burger mold, removable lifter and the handheld patty press.
Its tremendous easy to use; we used 6 ounces of our favourite hamburger recipe to make perfect uniform patties that were 4 ½ inches round and slightly over ½ inch thick. Thinner patties can be made by using less meat; typically a 4 ounce patty will be slightly thicker than a ¼ inch; a nice sized portion for a small child or someone who is not a big eater.
We got a deal on ground sirloin and turned our kitchen into a burger patty production zone where we made burger after burger for future use. We traced out circles of parchment paper the size of the burger mold that we inserted between each of the patties for easy separation when frozen; stacked them 6 high and wrapped them well for the freezer. The patties removed easily from the lifter without issue, however if you’re making veggie burgers I’d give it a light spray with cooking oil as veggie burger mix tends to be break apart. Now the kids can make their own burgers whenever they want; which at my house is all the time, we couldn’t make them fast enough to keep them happy and fed.
No one at my house enjoys pre-made store bought burgers; they never taste like beef and are loaded with preservatives and fillers which nobody needs in their bodies. Homemade burgers can be customized and made to each individuals liking with all the variations and recipes there are out in cyber world you can have a different burger every day of the week and not get bored.
Typically we use to make them fresh by hand, rolling out large balls of burger meat and then pressing them down; the problem with this method is that they’ll be cracks around the perimeter of the burger which while cooking tends to break off and end up in the flame. The fact that the lifter tray has a divot in the center makes for cooking the perfect burger, which prevents the meat from shrinking as well as from plumping up in the middle; we found that the cooked burgers pretty much retained their shape and size.
The Orblue Burger Press is made of a very strong durable plastic, that I am certain will last me for years to come. The handle on the press is black, lightweight and equally as strong. It washes up beautiful both in the kitchen sink and in the dishwasher and all three components stack for easy storage.
