Homemade Apple Chips
Our homemade apple chips are a great healthy alternative for snacking and effortless to make. All you need is your favourite types of apples, some sweet sugary love and time. It is a very simple recipe that requires two simple ingredients.
INGREDIENTS
3 to 4 apples washed and cored
Cinnamon sugar to taste
DIRECTIONS
Wash, core and thinly slice 3 to 4 of your favourite apples to a thickness of 1/8 to ¼ inch thick leaving them soaking in a bowl of water with about a ¼ cup of lemon juice until ready to use so they do not brown.
You make them two ways ~ either in the oven at 225F until thoroughly dry and crunchy; (approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours) or in a food dehydrator overnight (approximately 8 to 10 hours or longer) depending on how crispy you like them.
If you’re baking them line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper, pat dry the apples and sprinkle cinnamon sugar to taste over all the apple slices or toss dry slices in a mix of cinnamon sugar until well coated and bake until they are golden brown and the edges start to curl at the edges. I keep ours in a bit longer so they’re a nice dark colour and very crispy.
If you’re using a food dehydrator pat dry the apple slices and toss in cinnamon sugar to your taste and arrange slices on the drying racks in one layer and set for 8 to 10 hours until the perfect texture is achieved.
Once cooled the apple chips can be stored in zip lock bags or air tight containers for about a week.
