GIANT GRUESOME WORM CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE

Our Giant Gruesome Worm Chocolate Chip Cookie may look disgusting; I challenge you to think differently! It’s delicious with its balance of cookie crunch, rich cream cheese frosting and topped with whatever would could find in the house to make it spooky and gross looking making it a perfect delight for Halloween.; the gummy worms also give it a nice fruity taste.

Can you tell by the slice missing out it before the picture was snapped that it was a hit in our house and all I have left on the pan are a few measly crumbs!

This is a great cookie recipe to get the whole family involved, especially the little ones who will want to add some yummy decorations to make it look horrible or eat the toppings as they explore their spooky inner self.

We used simple ingredients and my tried and tested no fail chocolate chip cookie dough (way below).  I have been coarsely chopping an Oh Henry bars for years now; they’re the perfect add in without the fuss to make this a delicious cookie but unfortunately Oh Henry bars are only available in Canada; sorry USA, but on a good note they’re marketed as the Rally bars if I am not mistaken.

You don’t have to use the cookie recipe or the cream cheese frosting recipes below; just in case you want to make it from scratch!!

 What you can use:

 ·       A quality bag or box of cookie mix that makes at least 24 cookies

·       A tub of cream cheese frosting or your favourite to hold the toppings in place

·       Ground up chocolate graham cookie crumbs

·       Mini marshmallows

·       Chocolate chips

·       Skor candy pieces

·       Warmed Nutella (about 10 to 15 seconds in the microwave should do it) for drizzling on top

·       Chopped nuts

·       Last but not least ~ gummy worms

 CHOCOLATE CHIP DOUGH

INGREDIENTS

1 cup softened butter

¾ cup white sugar

¾ cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

2 ¼ cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup coarsely chopped O Henry Bar (chop frozen or this will get messy)

1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 375F.  Mix butter, both sugars and egg.  Stir in flour, baking soda, salt, then keep stirring as you add in your nuts, chocolate chips and O Henry Bar (this is my secret – shh don’t tell anyone).  The dough is going to be very stiff!  Drop by teaspoonful about 2 inches or roll into about 1 inch balls and press down with a fork and place on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. (I use silicone liner sheet – I get a more polished product). Bake about 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.

Variation:  In place of the O Henry Bar, add in ½ cup of walnuts or pecans and ½ cup Skor Toffee Bits or your favourite candy bar.

 CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1 package cream cheese

1 tsp vanilla

1 tbsp milk

4 cups or so of icing sugar

DIRECTIONS

Combine cream cheese vanilla into a mixing bowl until smooth and slowly add a cup of icing sugar at a time until nice smooth and of spreading consistency.
